For many, it calls to mind the image of a strong male role model - the person who helped shape your character and instill important values.  For others, it conjures up a host of other images and feelings, such as neglect, abuse, or even abandonment.

There are may faces of fatherhood, including biological fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and a host of understudies - from uncles, brothers, teachers, and coaches to religious leaders - who fill the void when they are needed.

But no matter who fills the crucial role, each can supply the love and attention that a child needs. Yet, fatherlessness in America has reached almost epidemic proportions - about four out of ten children now live in a separate households from their father.

We can no longer afford to allow these missing faces of  fatherhood to be someone else's problem.  Each of us can be part of the solution. You need not be a dad, or even a male, to make a difference.

TeamDad solely focuses on getting fathers and father figures to better “connect” with their children. We annually produce and provide a Faces of Fatherhood Calendar, a TeamDad Father Friendly Resource Guide, and in 2002 are starting a college scholarship fund for teens severely disadvantaged by father absence.

Research from many credible sources has been able to pinpoint specific problems associated with a father being absent in the raising & development of their children. Sadly, almost 4 in 10 children in America live absent their father, and this spans all ethnic, socioeconomic and geographic groups.

Some of the severe repercussions to children specifically related to father absence are:
· Being twice as likely to drop out of school,
· Being 5 times as likely to be poor,
· More likely to have premarital sex,
· More likely to become a teen parent,
· More likely to be involved in criminal activity.

Father absence is not just defined as no father present in the household. It is also defined as those fathers present but who elect to not take an active role in the daily tasks of raising their children (thinking their daily influence is not needed, they work too many hours to be available on a daily basis, or any number of other reasons).

Research proves children need and want a father’s influence, and that dads must do more things with their children, not just for their children, to reduce the negative impact father absence has on their children.

When the dad is involved in responsible fatherhood activities, children, mothers and the community all benefit.

To produce and distribute our materials, we obtain funding from corporate sponsors, other fatherhood groups and organizations and concerned individuals. Without this support, we could not begin to reach the millions of dads and father figures our children desperately need and want for their guidance and development.

Please become a member (it’s free), donate what you can, and help us get your network of friends & family members to this site so they can decide for themselves to do the same.
